FriendsBill is designed for the actual moment after a meal — when the bill arrives, the calculator app opens, and somebody sighs. Here's what replaces that.
The host uploads the receipt
Open FriendsBill — on the web or the free iOS/Android app — snap or upload a photo of your receipt, and watch items, prices, and tax fill in automatically. Add diner names ("Alex", "Sam", "Jo"…), review the extracted data, and you're ready. Prefer manual entry? You can still type everything in — but most hosts don't need to.
Add tax and tip
One field each. We handle the rest: tax is split proportionally by what each diner ordered (so the salad-eater doesn't subsidise the steak-eater), and tip is split evenly across the table.
Share the QR or link
Every bill gets an instant QR code — show it to the table and guests scan to join. For remote friends, copy the link and drop it in the group chat. Either way: no login, no app install — guests pick their name and start claiming items.
Watch claims come in live
As guests claim items, everyone else's screen updates in real time. Shared items show live "÷ 3" pricing that adjusts as more people join. Each guest sees their running total at the top of the screen.
Close it
When everyone's claimed, the host hits Close. Totals become final. Every diner now gets a transparency card — their items, their tax share, their tip share, their total — so the math is right there. No black box.
Guests pay with one tap
If you added your Venmo username, each guest sees a "Pay" button. One tap opens Venmo with the exact amount and restaurant name pre-filled. No Venmo? Guests can pay via Zelle, cash, or check — you decide which alternatives to accept. Track who's paid on your dashboard: "7 of 10 paid" at a glance.
